White foods are bad?

White rice, flour, pasta, crackers, bread and potatoes are all examples of foods that are ‘white’ in colour and have been inadvertently placed on the ‘unhealthy’ list. With the many recent health kicks in circulation, foods that were once good for us are now being established as unclean, and people are beginning to avoid consuming these foods altogether and choose their brown or even black counterparts.
Since when was enjoying a nice white baked potato or white rice sushi considered the less healthy option, in comparison to choosing sweet potato or brown rice?
Most white foods (potatoes exempt) have been ground and refined by stripping away the outer layer where the fiber is located to make these products easier to consume and digest. It is true that there are many white foods that have been heavily processed and loaded with numerous preservatives, salts and sugars, and these are the foods to be more mindful of. However, the stigma that has attached itself to the idea that all white foods are bad is absurd. There is no harm in savouring a sandwich made with homemade white bread, a bowl of spaghetti bolognaise or a chicken curry with white rice. The idea is to treat these foods the same as every other food - Make it yourself (if you can) and enjoy in moderation.
