Is the pursuit of happiness actually a source of unhappiness?

A curious paradox which got me thinking about 'what makes us happy?'

' It's easy to get caught up in the mindset of thinking "I'll be happy once I get that job, car, house, pay rise, relationships etc." But once you reach those goals or purchase those things, you experience happiness for a fleeting moment before you begin looking towards the next goal.

Don't get me wrong, goal setting is great! It is required to maintain motivation, encourage self growth and keep you moving forward in life. But perhaps happiness isn't something to 'chase down'. Maybe instead it depends on our personal mindset and outlook on life? A concept that happiness can be found within the present moment.

In the words of Margaret B Runbeck: 'Happiness is not the destination, but a manner of travelling'.
